Day 4 update

Hello all! The weekend has passed and more emails from Embassys have been recived. I shall write about them in order for your reading pleasure.

Firstly I recived a reply late friday afternoon from the Honorary Consul of Solomon Islands, Mr Freeman, commonly mistaken as ‘The’ Solomon Islands, which was the first thing I learned! Mr Freeman was very gratious with his time and sent me a link to a podcast he was a part of, The Commonwealth Poetry Podcast, lead by Gyles and Aphra Brandreth. The link is placed below if you wish to listen and I highly recommend you do. Not only did the podcast discuss poetry from Solomon Islands but Mr Freeman did a wonderful job of explaing some of the cultural aspects of the country and I would be remiss if I did not mention his incredible language skills switching from English, French and Pidgin with ease. Both Gyles and Aphra are fantastic hosts and this is certainly a podcast I will be returning to. Whether you are a fan of poetry or interested in different cultures and countries I highly recommend you take 20-30 minutes out of you day to take a listen.

Next up I recived a reply from the former Honorary Consul of Kiribati. I think it safe to say due to a slight communication issue in my email we didn’t get off to the best of starts. This lead me to re-reading my email and realising I might have put too much emphasis on gaining material things from embassys rather than gaining information on the countries themselves, for which I apologised. However, we managed to salvage some information and was informed of a daily income of £2 per household and the fact that the CIA infact hold an extensive database of information on the Island country. Mr Walsh also directed me to a history book that he had written on Kiribati called, A History of Kiribati From The Earliest Times  to the 40th Anniversary of the Republic. This being the first and fullest account of the history of the island. Naturally, I went straight to Amazon and purchased the book, which arrived under an hour ago and I am very much looking forward to reading. I have placed the a picture of the book below and you can find a copy on Amazon for around £17.

Next we had a few emails come in today. Firstly from Anguilla who directed me to the tourisim website, link below. The embassy of Japan soon followed with a link to the Japan National Tourisim Organization, again link below. The embassy of South Korea followed suit with a thank you for my interest, though once again a lack of communication from my original email, they sadly only directed me to where I might buy their countries flag.

Finally, as I began this article I recived a reply from The Gambia who have kindly offered to send me some maps about The Gambia from The Gambia High Commision in the UK. Once they arrive I am sure The Gambia will be popping back into one of my updates.

So some fantastic responses and hopefully more to come!
