A few months ago, I was feeling rather restless and wanted to travel to somewhere, anywhere! So determined to visit somewhere new I got up early and headed to the train station in Chester not sure where I would end up, often, the start of all the best stories. I soon found myself hurtling at speed through the English and Welsh countryside with an aim to hop off at Shrewsbury, and that’s exactly what I did.

Once I arrived I tried to get my bearings and head off for the castle which was easy enough to find. I walked in through the main gate and took in the view of shewsbury. With the castle door adorned with artillary pieces I had a nice wonder around the grounds. I then left intending to head into the town when a local saw me taking photos and stopped me.

He was kind enough to tell me about a hidden dragon that not many visitors see and often locals even walk past without a second glance. So the hunt for dragons was on! I followed his directions through the centre and down a road on my right, only stopping at the odd charity shop for a bargain of course. Soon I was at the river, meaning I, along with many other tourists and locals, had completely missed the dragon. Clearly I am not the best dragon hunter. However, determined to find the dragon that had alluded me so earlier, I set off back up the road thinking maybe the direction of travel would be more suitable to spot the beast.

It turns out I was right! There it was, adorning a door way to an opticians, oh the irony! As you can see from the picture I decided to give myself a break as it was clearly easy to miss and no wonder so many do. Happy with my find I continued back to the town centre and stumbled on a rather large Antiques shop, The Shrewsbury Antiques Center to be exact, my second vice after Charity shops! A quick, or should I say, quick for me, wonder round, I emerged empty handed as I didn’t quite fancy lugging home antiquities on the train. Though I must say the shop is well worth a visit to anyone inclined to collecting if they are in the area.

I took a glance at my watch and realised I had used up the majority of my time dragon hunting and was now in a fast dash to get the train home. My fleeting, yet satisfying, visit to Shrewsbury had come to an end and it was now time to head back home, mainly to feed the dog and to tell him of my epic dragon hunt.
