As a celebration of my 30th post, 2000 visitors from all around the world and with 4000 views, I thought I would write a short post about why I love to travel. Most people like to travel to get away from it all, seeking the calm and enjoyment of relaxation and no stress. I know many of my friends will travel thousands of miles to sit at a pool in the sun and do nothing but drink cocktails and read a book. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good cocktail and a good book, but that kind of travel just isn’t me.
I love to travel because I want to see and experience new cultures. I want to run around and explore the temples, the castles, the bustling market places. I want to meet people from all walks of life and talk to them, share stories and understand their way of life. My wife will attest that you need a holiday to recover from the holiday when you travel with me because I simply do not stop, I cannot stop.
Some of the best moments of my life have been whilst totally lost in a country where I do not speak the language getting hand signal directions to my destination from a rather confused local. Seeing the areas that most tourists do not, experiencing the local life even if but for a fleeting moment. A true effort to escape the normality of life that is precious and yet can be rather mundane.
Gaining a new perspective on life and growing not only in knowledge but in personality and understanding what it means to be alive, and to be me. I have learnt a lot from school, college and university, but I have learnt much more from travelling. So here’s to travelling, the adventures and madness, the relaxing and tiring, the joys and the reflective serenity of what this great world we live in has to offer.
